If you do all the work that is needed, you can have a lot of confidence that the car is going to be reliable. If you would go and find another used car (Z or otherwise) you can't always be sure the maintanence was kept track of, or know if the car was not abused. The only other way of doing it is to buy a brand new car, which is not a good option, in my opinion. I bought an STi, and lost 5k for 7 months and 12k miles of use. And I could have put a lot of cool stuff in my Z or even maintained my tahoe (for the next 100k miles) for 5k dollars, instead of trading it in.
